The Governor's Demise

Three years ago, a former Lewiston mayor’s body was exhumed to determine if poisoning was the cause of his death more than a century past. After much legal red tape, forensic scientists gained permission to unearth the mayor. There was much speculation, but no one expected to learn what they did when they pulled the Mayor's rotting coffin from the ground. When the casket was opened, veteran officers and medical officials stumbled away from the grave in horror -- the interior lid of the coffin was streaked with bloody claw marks gouged deep into the wood. The honorable mayor had been buried alive.
