The Dirge

Do the dead walk in Northern Maine?

MULBERRY, MAINE -- It has been confirmed that novelist Jonathan Cain has moved into the house once occupied by deceased physicist Theodore Currie. What makes this news disturbing is the fact that Currie, once compared to Albert Einstein, was found dead there last summer just months after moving in.

Police have not revealed how the great scientist died in the house he had built in remote Mulberry, Maine. Local legend has it that Currie was covered in human bite marks when his body was discovered in June.

Believed by many to be insane, the once brilliant physicist moved to northern Maine after his eight-year-old daughter Angel died in a house fire in Tarrytown, N.Y. Some in the scientific community speculated that Currie believed he could use cutting edge quantum mechanics to bring his beloved daughter back from the dead.

You heard that here for the first time just over a year ago.

Now Cain, who has sent a dozen books to the bestsellers list in the past 15 years, has moved into the Currie house without explanation. And anyone who keeps up with The Dirge will recall that Cain's wife of 17 years died last spring of a brain tumor.

It leads us to wonder: has the formidable author taken up residence in the impressive, Second Empire home in Maine to collect his thoughts and research a new book? Or has grief led him to the form of madness that makes a man believe he can raise the dead?
